Quiet confidence in the sugarbush - Las Peregrinas

Quiet confidence in the sugarbush

By: Stella Orange

Hello, you.

We have been appreciating the responses we have been receiving on my last newsletter on the In-Between Times.

And our last salon “So You Say You Suck at Marketing” just wrapped with Office Hours earlier in the week. It was a lively bunch, and together we surfaced all kinds of new ways to spread the word and tend relationships, in ways that feel good in each of our bones.

What I’m struck by is how the current conditions are actually creating a kind of clearing.

For noticing what is around us, certainly.

And also for a growing discernment about what we intend to do about it, and why we care deeply about doing it that particular way. In other words: why that way of showing up matters to us.  What it means.

Some people at the salon spoke of overstimulation in the marketplace. Of joyless time spent on some platforms. Of what it feels like to be cared about and listened to by a Customer Service person. Of leaning in more to their relationships and of asking for referrals.

There are a few words I’m compelled to draw attention to here:

  • Response
  • Current conditions
  • Clearing
  • Noticing
  • Discernment
  • Intention

Is it just me or are these ingredients on the rise?

Like sap rising up a sugar maple tree this time of year.

Only for a little bit longer now.

Then the season will be done.

This time of year, I like to imagine that I know how it must feel to be a sugar maple tree.

Sweet sap rising up.

Roots firming anchored in the ground.

With a little straw poked into my belly button, to fill a bucket with sap that gets mixed with the sap from other trees, that gets cooked down… cooked down… cooked down into syrup that we can put on our pancakes all year long.

In this image, you all are the other trees in the sugarbush, with your own flavor of sap.

Which is all my way of saying that this spring, my hope is that the sugarbush we share together here flows mighty with the flavors of response to current conditions, clearing, noticing, discernment, and intention.

Because the more of that we’ve got among us, the better.

Big love,

Stella
